HELPFUL HINTS
The First Day of School
Our first day of school will be Wednesday, August 22nd. This will be a full day of student attendance. Kindergarten students will be escorted off the buses and gathered together by teacher in the cafeteria. I will meet and walk the children down from the cafeteria to our classroom. If you drive your child he/she may be dropped in the front of the school in the drop off line or you may park in a designated parking spot and escort your child into the front office.
Lunch
Students will be having lunch on the first day of school. Your child may bring a "cold lunch" (any lunch prepared at home and sent in a lunchbox/lunch bag) or purchase a "hot lunch" (lunch that is prepared and served in the cafeteria). If your child will be having cold lunch, please make sure his/her name is written clearly on the outside of his/her lunch bag. If your child is going to be purchasing hot lunch, you have two options:
1. You can load money onto your child's lunch card by creating an account. This money can be used to buy lunch or milk (if your child would like milk with his/her cold lunch).
OR
2. You can send in money to school with your child and that money will be sent to the office to be added to your child's lunch card. Please make sure the money is in a baggie/envelope with your child's name, "lunch/milk money", and KL
Snack
Each day your child will be given a snack break. Each student will be responsible for bringing their own snack.
Additional Information
I recommend sending in a pair of socks for your child to keep at school in his/her cubby. We have P.E. every day, and since it's still sandal season, it can be easy to forget a pair!
I also suggest sending in an extra pair of clothing for your child to keep in his/her cubby in case of any accidents (at the bathroom, spilled drinks, getting dirty at recess, etc.). I can put the clothing in a zipper bag and store it by their extra supplies.
Communication
One of my goals this year is to keep you informed the best I can. I plan to achieve this goal by posting a newsletter once a month on my school webpage. This newsletter letter will highlight our month's activities. I hope this will enable you to engage your child in conversation about what activities and fun things they will be learning in the classroom.
Another way that I communicate with you is through your child’s daily folder or their Big Hollow School notebook. Your child will bring their Daily folder and notebook home each day. Any important information from school will be placed in either of these two items. If you have any notes for me, be sure to put it in your child's folder rather than their backpacks. I don't always check backpacks. Students will be responsible for putting their folders in a basket every morning. If it's not in the basket I will assume that it's at home. Folders must come back to school every day! I can be contacted either before or after school for any questions or concerns. The easiest way to reach me during the school day is through e-mail. If you have an e-mail address you would like me to be aware of, please indicate it on the questionnaire attached to this letter. I will do my best to respond the same day of receiving your note, phone call, or e-mail.
